Professional Image (Dress Code)

All Cosmetology and Manicure Future Professionals must adhere to the following professional dress code while in attendance:

  1. Clothing should be black, white, gray, or blue denim in any combination or pattern. No other colors are permitted.
  2. A minimal texture or pattern in clothing is acceptable if it is a black, gray, and white print.
  3. Clothing should be professional and clean.
  4. Any color shoes may be worn as long as they are professional, practical, and comfortable—no flip flops.
  5. Hair should be styled before arriving at the school.
  6. If cosmetics are worn, they should be applied before arriving at the school.
  7. For shirts and blouses, the midriff (belly) must be fully covered at all times. No crop tops, tube tops, or spaghetti strap tops.
  8. For shorts, skirts, and dresses, the garment must be no higher than fingertip length, unless opaque tights or leggings are worn underneath.
  9. Clothing, aprons, and capes may not contain political or religious messages and/or branding, drugs or alcohol paraphernalia, profanity, and/or other brand logos. All industry-related logos must be Paul Mitchell-branded.

Examples of ACCEPTABLE attire may include:

  1. Bottoms:
    1. Jeans or clothing made of jean material. Large rips or tears must fall below the fingertips when standing. Jeans can be black, white, gray, or blue denim.
    2. Any rips or tears must fall below the fingertips while standing up.
    3. Shorts, dresses, skirts, and skorts that are fingertip length or longer, unless opaque tights or leggings are worn underneath.
  2. Tops:
    1. Sweatshirts, t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and/or jackets may be worn, but may not contain political or religious messages and/or branding, drugs or alcohol paraphernalia, profanity, and/or other beauty industry-related logos. All beauty industry-related logos must be Paul Mitchell-branded.
    2. Sleeveless tops are acceptable as long as the straps are at least 3 inches wide.
  3. Accessories:
    1. Baseball hats, stylish hats, caps, stylish head wraps, or beanies may be worn in any color, but may not contain political or religious messages and/or branding, drugs or alcohol paraphernalia, profanity, and/or other industry-related logos. All beauty industry-related logos must be Paul Mitchell-branded.
    2. Name tag — as provided by the school. All Future Professionals are required to wear a name tag while in attendance.
  4. Shoes in any color.
  5. Paul Mitchell or school-branded apparel that meets the requirements of the Professional Image Guidelines.
  6. Clothing may be worn in black, white, or gray, and/or blue denim.

Examples of UNACCEPTABLE attire for all Future Professionals in attendance:

  1. No spaghetti strap tops. No tube tops or crop tops/belly-revealing shirts. Straps must be at least 3 inches wide.
  2. Sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, jackets, and printed T-shirts other than those with the Paul Mitchell logo or the school logo.
  3. Sweatpants or biker shorts.
  4. No shorts, dresses, skirts, or skorts shorter than fingertip length without opaque tights or leggings underneath.
  5. No flip flops.
  6. Clothing with colors other than black, white, or gray, and/or blue denim.
  7. Headphones are not permitted in the classroom or the clinic classroom.
  8. Sunglasses.

All Esthetic Future Professionals must adhere to the following professional dress code while in attendance:

  1. Future Professionals must wear black or gray scrubs.
  2. Future Professionals may wear a long-sleeved shirt under their scrubs, or a sweater or jacket over their scrubs, as long as they are black or gray.
  3. Nail enhancements and regular nail polish are not permitted. Gel polish is acceptable as long as the nails do not extend past the fingertip.
  4. Shoes may be any color, but must meet the following guidelines:
    1. They must be made of a non-porous material.
    2. They must be closed-toed with full backs.
    3. No Uggs, Crocs, slippers, or flip flops.
  5. Jewelry must not dangle or create excessive noise.
  6. Hair must be tied back while performing services.

Future Professionals who fail to comply with the Future Professional dress code may be coached and may receive an advisory.
